Welcome To The Ultimate Shillien Knight Guide!

Shillien Knights are Dark Elves (Warrior) that can be selected after finishing the Class Transfer quest at lvl 31. They specialize in Sword and Shield, and wear Heavy Armor. Shillien Knights are offensive tanks who penetrate their enemies’ defenses and drain their HP. Thanks to their buffs, enemies nearby will be slowed and crippled by the Shillien Knight, when engaged in battle.

While Shillien Knights are less tanky than Paladins, they possess impressive damage and crowd control abilities. Compared to Bladedancers, they have slightly lower DPS and higher survivability. While they may not have the highest DPS in the Warrior class, the Shillien Knight’s balanced stats makes him easy to use in all areas of the game.

Unlike tanks such as Human Warriors, who largely rely on brute force, Shillien Knight’s tanking abilities stem from their ability to HP Drain while attacking to sustain themselves in battle. Because they do rely on HP Drain, instead of on base stats, they are not quite as tanky as Human Warriors; however, they have the ability to deal more damage, which allows them to really shine when leveling AFK.

PvE is an effortless job for Shillien Knights, because of higher survivability gained from Passive Skills such as Righteous Fury and Enhanced Drain. Coupled with Defense Aura and Ultimate Defense, Shillien Knights can withstand most enemy ambushes. Although it may take some time to kill the enemy, some players prefer the assurance of higher survivability, instead of banking their chances on glass cannons such as Abyss Walker or Bladedancer.

However, PvP — especially Arena matches —  can be challenging for Shillien Knight players, since the Shillien Knight lacks the burst damage used by Rogues, and some of the Warriors and Mystic classes. As such, it is often best to prolong battles against tanky characters and adjust your playstyle to effectively counter each enemy type.

You will enjoy playing this character class, if you are the type of player who enjoys playing an offensive melee tank that lifesteals.

Character Review

Pros:

  • Strong tank with good provokes and defense buffs.
  • HP Drain attacks (Life Leech and Enhanced Drain) increases survivability significantly
  • As a Dark Elf with naturally high ATK and CRIT stat, Shillien Knights can cause more damage than any other tank in the game.
  • Able to solo AFK farm, due to strong life leeching capabilities. Easier for PvE, compared to other tanks.
  • Saves a ton of HP potions due to life leech, making this character class very Adena friendly
  • Chain Hydra is one of the best CC skills in the game, especially for large PvP fights
  • Shillien Knight’s skillset allows him to clear dungeons that have significantly higher  power  requirements than your current CP.
  • With the right skill setup, Shillien Knights can be great in both PvP and PvE.

Cons:

  • If you’re looking for an absolute tank for Sieges, a Shillien Knight isn’t for you. They’re often the first tanks to die in fights and will never spend the most time on the frontlines of Fortress Siege.
  • Lacks range attacks, making it easy to get kill-stealed
  • Also from being a Dark Elf, he has the lowest HP for a warrior class. Think of him as an offensive tank.

Skill Priority and Usage

Be sure to obtain Level 1 on all your skills before following the prioritization (particularly Righteous Fury and Enhanced Drain). It is important to prioritize your Warrior Weapon Mastery, Chain Hydra and Life Leech, as these skills will be your staple source of damage. Defensive buffs and Passives should follow to ensure survivability.

Specific Skills Usage

  • Righteous Fury and Enhanced Drain isn’t really a big priority, since the level scaling is minimal. You can leave it at a low level until you have nothing else to upgrade.
  • Ultimate Defense (Active) should be given priority to increase survivability. This skill makes you even tougher to beat, with Defense Aura.
  • Both active skills (Chain Hydra and Life Leech) are fantastic AOE skills that can be used in PvP and PvE.
  • In PvE, Ultimate Defense is important to increase survivability and slow down enemies, allowing you to cleave attacks towards them.
  • In PvP, using your Crowd Control skills (Rush Impact and Chain Hydra) is essential.
  • Prioritize Warrior Weapon Mastery for Damage, and Light Armor Mastery & Defense Aura for Survivability

Other Useful Class Tips

  • As a tank, it’s important to prioritize getting some good quality Heavy Armor. (High grade, level, and enhancement. If possible, try to complete a Rare set)
  • Shillien Knights work best when playing in a party. As an offensive tank, you are able to taunt enemies to attack you using Chain Hydra, which enhances the survivability of your party. Your added Defense Buffs and Lifesteal Buffs are key to staying alive.
  • In PvP situations such as Sieges and Clan war, use Ultimate Defense to close the gap between enemies. After that, you can use your Active skills to knock the enemy down, while slowly maintaining your health with Life Leech
  • You can use burst attacks against Mages and Rogues. However, you will have trouble fighting enemies from your own class, such as Warlords, Temple Knights, etc. That being said, it is still possible for you to win in a drawn out fight by manually evading enemy hits by kiting them, and then waiting for cooldown.
  • You can activate Soul Shots just for your Active Skills, to boost your HP Drain
  • You’ll want to disable (stun/knockdown) the enemy before damaging them. You have 2 Crowd Control skills, Rush Impact and Chain Hydra, so use them wisely in PvP.
  • Black Ore and Elven are the best accessory sets for a Shillien Knight. As a melee and Warrior class, you will need a Critical Resist bonus from Black Ore set to increase your survivability in battles. If you want added P.Atk damage and stun resist, go for Elven.
  • When charging towards an enemy:
    • Chain Hydra > [IMMEDIATELY] Meteor Storm > Life Leech > Rush Impact > [IMMEDIATELY] Missile Bolt.
    • Rush Impact > [IMMEDIATELY] Meteor Storm > Life Leech > Chain Hydrea > [IMMEDIATELY] Missile Bolt.
  • When the enemy is charging towards you:
    • Chain Hydra > Life Leech > [IMMEDIATELY] Missile Bolt and Meteor Shower > Rush Impact > Normal hits.
    • [IMMEDIATELY] Missile Bolt and Meteor Shower > Chain Hydra > Life Leech > Rush Impact > Normal hits.
  • For Rare Skills, use Missile Bolt and Meteor in Arena PvP. Healing Strike and Absolute Shield are good for AFK-farming.

    Positives

best balanced char overall that can tank, dps, buff and debuff enemy. Best offensive tanker in L2R that can 1 vs 1 any players in PVP if you really know how to play it,

    Negatives

low hp (but can be fix in late game) , low damage (farm slower than others), running speed is slow to chase other players (need to increase SPEED), you are only tanky for 15sec until your Ultimate Defense runs out or continue to use Absolute Shield

Guide on this is website is so far the best that i’ve have seen, i’m using a lvl 260 Shillen Knight char in Dion server with 1.5mil cp, allow me to do some corrections for a clearer guide for everyone,

    – Ultimate Defense = besides the 25% DEF buff + some DEF, it reduces enemy attack speed by 50% (hits u slower) and does not reduce enemy running speed (a nightmare for high aspd enemies)

    – i would not recommend accessory arbol set because that is for farming PVE, only useful for PlainWalker 3rd Class Awakening skill that benefits most

    – i would not recommend Nassen Accessory Set unless you are chasing players and wanting higher evasion which does not suit SK class at all, Nassen set is more suited for ELF class and Roque class due to their higher base evasion stats

    – Black Ore Set and MoonStone Set accessory i would recommend for being tanky, having Stun Resist from Elven Set still would not protect us from Knockdown Skills, Uncontrollable Status and Slow, i’m using MoonStone set because it offers the highest base stats for tankers while i notice MAtk players hurts more than PAtk players

    – i would Max Passive skill 1st before Active Skill since it is more beneficial in the long run for PVE and PVP

    – i played both critical build and penetration build on SK and i can tell you that critical build is good for PVE but sucks bad for PVP the reason are quite simple – monsters do not have high crit resist like players do while players can get a lot of crit resist from many sources like soul crystal, codex, runes, armors, pets and etc . Thus making you wanting to trigger CRIT on enemy so much harder(u die if u dont’ trigger CRITS), if you don’t believe go search youtube, there are some players did experiments on the ratio rate of crits on enemy players (u will be shocked to find the truth) but then Crit builds are good for PVE.

    – So i spend quite a lot of adena and red diamonds to reset my Crit build into Penetration build, my findings are you deal more stable damage against players and they are so much easier to die(Penetration is 100% if you hit), the reasons are simple – u don’t have many sources to counter Penetration and Reduce Def% while many players tend to take Crit Rate + Crit Damage stats thus making your High Pene + (-25% enemy def from Life Leech skill) is scary combo in PVP but Penetration sucks for PVE and it deals less compared to Crits to monsters mobs

    – to counter the problem of running slow to chase enemy is to get the substats for SPEED% increase from substat on your armor, boot and accessory ( u can get more from Clan Buff and Daily Diamond Buff) with all that should be enough for you to out run a meteor skill and missile bolt skill

    – For PVP some items have some certain stats so try getting Pene > Patk while certain items that don’t have those will need you to get Crit Resist > Resillience ………my Rare PVP weapon has Patk + Pene + Attack Speed

    – For PVE getting Crit Damage > Crit Rate while other items to get are HP Drain% > PDef ………..for my PVE weapon (i have 3 X PVE weapons to deal with Boss, Elite and Magic monsters) the stats are Hp Drain% + Attack Speed + Crit Rate

SKILL COMBO for PVP – Do you know that u cannot stack Knockdown right after 1 another ?
enemies will be able to use HP Pot or KB/Stun u back in between those 2 X KB skill like stacking Rush Impact then Meteor Skill, furthermore it takes players 1 sec or less to stand back after each KB skill so to make a very nice stacking combo that does not allow enemy players to have the chance to use any HP Pot would be

Rush Impact > Chain Hydra > Life Leech > Meteor > Missile Bolt > normal attack (enemy will not have chance to use HP Pot)

u can KB > Stun > KB = it works
but KB > KB > KB does not seem to work

some players tend to maximize the damage out put like
Rush Impact > Life Leech > Chain Hydra > Missile Bolt > Meteor Skill…………..but to me it seems to work only 2 out of 3 times doing it because between Rush Impact > Life Leech > Chain Hydra there is a gap that players able to KB/Stun you thus breaking your combo chain effect

Usually my style would be =

if enemy same CP or lower
Ultimate Defence > normal attack + eat enemy attacks > Chain Hydra > Life Leech > Meteor Skill > Missile Bolt

If enemy CP is higher than yours
Ultimate Defence > run around to avoid skills > Chain Hydra > Life Leech > Meteor Skill > Missile Bolt > Normal Attacks

For PVE skills – get 3 x other weapon to deal with Elite, Magic and Boss with stats like HP Drain + Attack Speed + Crit Rate

AFK Farming = Use Life Leech Skill(Max LVL) and Healing Strike ( lvl 1 ) to save up your Mana Pots

I’m a little curious about your opinion between Crit Rate and Penetration. I’m not an SK (Phantom Ranger here) but we do share the same race. I wanna go in-deep on your opinion on what to get for my archer. Should I invest on Crit Rate more or go start getting Penetration? I wanna know where I’m going before I go fully committed on my PR (it’s already level 254).

      Thanks.

SK is a semi support class, the main purpose of SK is to engage to save your mates in clashes, no matter how much CP you have the HP drain will not be enough for you to face tank. VictoryExe is the worst SK ive met, he couldnt hook properly and always run like retard in clashes so i wouldnt take any tips from him.

I can gurantee you life leech will not help in face tanking 2v1 or 3v1 even if you are 300k CP higher.

Main purpose of SK is its hook its either to save your team mates by hooking enemies to other direction than your mates or to engage with it and make your friend use atk skills on them.

ill say it one more time SK = Semi Support Class which depends mainly on the hook

Setting SK in Auto mode in PVP is complete chaos, so it have to be played actively

and NO SK dont need HP drain on wep for PVE and PVP! his built in skill is enough

i don’t know why you’re so against Victoryexe, and just to let you know, there is never a “correct” way to play a certain character. Everyone has different style of playing and opinions with the class they play, you have yours too. And to be honest, your way doesn’t mean is the right way, so don’t force your so call “right” way to force it onto others, no need to be so aggressive with players that aren’t playing the way that you think is right. And most importantly, you’re playing in NA server, you’re way behind in knowledge for the classes for the 260 patches. Be humble, no need go around burning others, just cause you think they played the class wrongly. Look at other SKs all around too, don’t just look at yours, Victoryexe might be playing SK more effectively than you.

  • Ram
    April 6, 2018 at 3:29 am

Well….if Ken believes SK is made to play that way then it is his choice, only the passage of time and failure will make one wiser…….the reason i’m sharing what i have learned is to prevent other players to make stupid mistakes like i did which waste a lot of red diamonds + adena + time……

for SEA players, our early source of info is from Korea server and most of the info are in korean language even you get the translations are not 100% accurate so it is hard to prepare for new things and what to expect…….

anyway being SK would be a tank that goes to the frontlines to engage and you are only tanky as long as your buff remains active (Ultimate Defense + Absolute Shield) expect to die because u r a tanker

while for pvp – life leech only gives u back around 10-20% your total hp so it does little for PVP but for PVE it is a saving grace

Do you know that Enhance Drain (passive) only triggers when enemy attacks u ? the trigger rate is 15% chance and only last for 6sec so it is not very stable life leech source. For lvl 260 Patch u are going to need all the life leech% stat in your PVE weapons, armor and accessories else u r going to have trouble farming in the new elite maps and temporal rift maps, the monster and boss hits like a truck(painful) even with the LifeLeech Skill + Healing Strike is still not enough for your char to afk farm in those new maps because the mobs damage will out do your hp gain, We notice it when we saw korean players adding life leech% stats on their items before us

i suggest upgrading your elite weapon 1st before PVP weapon with at least Life Leech + Attack speed…….Crit Rate comes 3rd stat(MAX attribute) then your 2nd most important weapon would be Red Weapon (magical Mobs) with Life Leech + Attack speed(MAX Attribute)…..pvp weapon comes last as u will notice it does little for PVE in the 260 patch onward

in short u only spend some resources for PVE weapon and life leech stats on your items……saving u a lot of resource from making elite armor and red armor (magical) for the 260 lv patch…….

for lvl 320 patch….if i got some free time, i would write down whats new in that patch and what to expect

Is there a downside to having a tank class (SK or Paladin for example) equip duals or pole arm instead of sword and shield?

Q: Is there a downside to having a tank class (SK or Paladin for example) equip duals or pole arm instead of sword and shield?

A: You would not get to use the 90% of the skill and passive as they are grey out thus u deal way lower damage

  • Ram
    July 2, 2018 at 9:08 pm

For 320 lvl patch, SK has been buffed up making it more cheating class than previously, some skills are adjusted to make SK more OP, basically SK is buffed up some skills and added few new skills (active+passive ) from the 3rd class awakening, “Shilen Knight” will be called as “Shilen Templar” from the new 3rd class awakening, the quest for 3rd class can be done early as lvl 250++ onwards but as I recall u may fully transfer class at lvl 270……..i could be wrong but it depends on your server GM to set which lvl for 3rd class awakening, I would still call it SK class as it is easier to remember.
Almost every skill will have additional buff,

I will try my best to list down the changes below:
Ultimate Defense – at lvl 30 skill = reduce 5sec cooldown and at lvl 40 skill will reduce another 5sec cooldown so basically u will have the skill duration 15sec while the cooldown is 30sec

Chain Hydra – increase 5% damage once skill lvl 40 achieved.

Life Leech Skill – increase 5% damage once skill reach lvl 30, this skill has been revised a bit not only it decreases enemy DEF% but also reduces enemy running speed % (OP debuff ) at skill lvl 58 it gives reduce enemy def = 26.02% while reducing enemy running speed by 32.04% with duration of 5sec but somehow they capped the limit of life leech of 30% leech to able to gain only life leech to 35% Max HP gain your of char, somehow this is a slight nerf due to Dev noticing SK class able to instantly gain to FULL HP in 3 vs 3 matches……imagine your SK class vs 3 enemy players while u left 10% hp and u chain hydra + life leech skill = u instantly gain 100% HP (feels like drinking LARGE HP POT) but with this slight nerf u only able to gain to 35% MAX HP (feels like drinking SMALL HP POT) leaving you 10% +35% = 45% HP……..told u SK class is cheating class especially in late game till Dev had to slightly nerf this skill

Tank Mastery(passive) – All Tanks will receive a new passive skill that reduces 20% damage from mobs and u cannot lvl up this skill

Heavy Armor Mastery (passive) – they change this passive skill from % reduce to 4075 damage decrease at skill lv 64
Righteous Fury (passive) – at lvl 30 will add 15% Threat Rate, my guess is this will add 15% aggro to mobs

NEW SKILLS from 3rd awakening class are as follows:

Barrier of Shilen (passive) – if your HP falls below 30% it will activate to give u additional 50k ++ white HP that last around 7sec, I only lvl this skill once at lvl 2 now with 60k hp +, the reason I didn’t max this skill further is because this skill need something extra besides adena + skill point, it requires a certain amount of “lesser giant tome” and this tome is very limited amount from QUESTS, if u need to farm more of this Tome, only 2 ways = spend $$$ from shop to get more OR farm it from “NIGHTMARE RIFTS”

Spirit of Shilen – This OP skill (very good for PVP + PVE) is a buff that last around 15sec, the description is a bit tricky but let me explain as it describe as “ Increases u and your party members ATK + ATK Spd + HP Drain + Reduces Threat against your party member from limited time while imbues everyone with a buff that grants nullification against Skills, so basically at lvl 5 with 90s cooldown it does:

Spirit of Shilen, Lvl 5 skill = 15sec buff = 15,849 ATK + 15.81% Atk Spd + 3.24% HP Drain for u and your teammates

Spirit of Shilen lvl 5 skill = 15sec buff = in the early 2sec of the 15sec, all enemy skills will deal u and your teammates NO Damage with No Effects also even RARE Skills like Meteor, this means u will have damage immunity without getting Stun, KB and many other debuffs……….only enemy basic normal attack will deal u damage. Then follow by the 7sec (leaves u 5sec) that does the same thing but only nullifies 1 enemy skill

      Dear RAM,

Barrier of Shilen is this skill have some kind of cooldown…? or u can activate it every time SK HP drop below 30 %…?

Btw i am SK at Indonesian Server Current level is 260 (on my way to transfer class), thanks so much to explain some unexplainable thing about SK in my Mind. this class i s fun to play both in PVP and PVE.

i got some spare question if u don’t mind about SK build, after this

NEW things in 320patch, some of the things that I can recall so far
    “Talismans “
Talisman is just like collecting CORES from certain mobs but instead u collect it from field mobs and dungeon mobs that drop the talisman boxes to open random cores, u may get it from SHOP and EVENTS also, Talismans are easy way to gain HUGE CP boost, estimate that u may be getting 200k to 500k CP from talisman, easily AFK in field mobs maps to gain huge amount of talisman boxes

“New Pets” some pets may intro in your server earlier than 320patch
Fenrir – Wolf like pet, very cool looking
Eggcellency – u become an EGG running around but u cannot equip mount items (easter egg event)
    Aiyara – Elephant mount, looks……………………
Barong – Lion mount that looks funny that does not look like Kirin mount at all
Camelot – Your everyday Camel mount………….

    “New Cloaks”
    – Hagios Cloak from Temple of Creation = once every 2 min when your char does crit atk there is a 5% ++ chance that will do extra 20%++ atk of damage with 50% reduce enemy speed for 1sec
    – Awakened Embrion Cloak (Dragon Cloak) from Temple of Dragon Heart – Dragon Rift – 12% ++ chance to trigger when your basic attack trigger a skill does addition 20%++ damage like fissure that has 100% chance to stun enemy for 1sec

    “New Rifts”
NIGHMARE difficulty lvl for Altar Of Madness and Countess Of Blood = there is a minimum requirement to enter these NIGHTMARE Rifts like having enough Magical Points from equipping Magical Weapon + few Magical Armor will only allow u gain access…………
Temple of Creation – get Hagios Cloak = easy to farm and get, u just need a team with good Magical Weapons
Temple of Dragon Heart – Dragon Rift – get Awakened Embrion Cloak @ Dragon Cloak =even at lowest difficulty setting, this rift is consider hard to complete even with everyone having 2.1 mil cp, Dragon Weapon is a MUST while having good team coordination, Dragon Armor hugely helps this rift……………DEV really forcing players to get dragon armor set with this new rift.

    “New Clan Dungeon”
    Very Hard difficulty for
Varkaron boss = your gonna need a good tanker to aggro tank + self sustain for this……SK class will shine here
Queen Ant boss = The NIGHTMARE armor for BOSS armor will be very handy for this, u will understand soon enough once the BOSS hp get low enough………..

I was able to reach 2.1mil CP with only UR weapon + NO UR armor at lvl 320 , this is easily achievable whether you are F2P or not…….u just need “MAXIMUM EFFORT” with 24hours farming + a good farming clan to gain higher CP, u will need 5 X different weapon types…….i will explain this in other post soon if i have time……

    Great guide,

I am playing a SK on the EA servers and mostly F2P.
I am concentrating on my rare PVP set and trying to maximize my gear and mount gear to best my gaming in PVP and PVE
    (sorry for my bad English)

I am wondering regarding several items you mentioned on your guide as to why you picked those stats over others
I am sure there is no right or wrong but personal preferences and play style, and I guess you have access to more later game mechanics which can help me better gear up

    1. wouldn’t Evasion > Crit resist ?
since SK have very low HP wouldn’t it be better not to get hit as much as possible ? or our base Evasion is too low that the added Evasion from gear and mount gear will not benefit us ?
would a half Evasion half Crit resist mount gear setup would be wise ?
    2. Would a max geared SK with SR soul crystals need extra help to his Accuracy stats to handle PVP and World bosses ?
I find myself many times strangling in PVP and world bosses missing hits and i guess due to lack of accuracy, currently I am leveling up as many accuracy mount gear to help me, but I could not see you mention it is required
would a half Accuracy half Crit rate mount gear setup would be wise ?
    3. You mention both Black ore and Elven sets are good for SK
from my understanding more attack = better hp gain while attacking = better survival,
From you experience, would the extra accuracy, defense and crit resist of black ore set out weight the stun resist and higher attack or Elven ?
(to be honest i have lvl2 on Elven and i do not feel less stunned)
    Thanks

      1) This is mainly due to the meta. Crit Resist is more valuable in PvP (War, Sieges, etc) while Evasion for PvE (Elite Dungeons, Rifts). I would not totally neglect evasion stats though, so you will need some of it from mount and soul crystals.
      2) Accuracy from maxed Soul Crystals, Codex, Talisman and Equipment collection would suffice, imho. Unless you like to hunt evasive classes, you might want to add 1-2 accuracy substats.
      3) PvP wise, I still think Black ore outweighs Elven even with higher base attack/stun resist. Chain Hydra without a defense is like a suicide, since you need to set up the fights for your party/team.
